Maximilian Igl is an AI researcher working on reinforcement learning, imitation learning, and autonomous-driving simulation. He completed his PhD at the University of Oxford, focusing on deep reinforcement learning and generalization in sequential decision-making systems. During his PhD, he interned at Microsoft Research and DeepMind. He then joined Waymo, working on learning-based simulation for autonomous driving, before moving to NVIDIA’s Autonomous Vehicle Research Group. At NVIDIA, he has contributed to the Alpamayo ecosystem, leading development of AlpaSim, a simulation platform for autonomous-vehicle research, and AlpaGym, a gym-style environment for training autonomous-driving agents in closed loop.
