Derek is the Vice President of Commercial Development for Occidental Petroleum Corporation, where he leads Oxy Low Carbon Venture’s corporate venture investment program. Through this platform, Derek works closely with other key executives and business units to enable Oxy to drive innovation through investment in technologies and businesses that are aligned with Oxy's strategic vision of building a sustainable energy future.

Prior to Oxy, Derek was a corporate and securities partner at Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati in their Austin office, where his practice focused on venture capital and private equity investments, mergers and acquisitions and capital market transactions in the energy, climate tech, internet, semiconductor, software, telecommunications and life sciences sectors.
